NCSRC held a series of three short "summer chats" inspired by the publication of our report, How Charter Schools Can Leverage Community Assets through Partnerships.
Like that publication, the summer chat series is intended to inspire and support charter schools in pursing and strengthening community partnerships to better serve students and families in their communities.
Summer Chat Series on Community Engagement - Chat #1
In the first summer chat, Dr. Anna Hinton, Director of Charter School Programs at the U.S. Department of Education, provided a description of collective impact theory and why this approach benefits charter schools who are trying to build strong community partnerships. An overview of collective impact theory is provided in the handout available under “downloads” in top right corner of this page.
Dr. Achil Petit, Superintendent of Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy Charter Schools, then described Harlem Children’s Zone’s community partnerships.
