Nonprofit Board Member Recruiting/Matching Program, Fort Wayne, Indiana

The Foellinger Foundation of Fort Wayne, Indiana, granted $40,400 over two years to support Get on Board, a project to connect exemplary veterans of local nonprofit governing boards with young leaders interested in serving in similar capacities. The veterans, a pool of people drawn from nominees for a foundation community board service award, act as mentors and share their knowledge of how to be effective in the role. The Get on Board project has been integrated into the Paul Clarke Nonprofit Resource Center at the Allen County Public Library. Center librarian Lettie Haver said the effort to make connections resembles, a national system to match prospective board members with nonprofit organizations. Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana has been tapped to assist with outreach. Get on Board provides board training programs for young leaders and assistance in connecting with nonprofits through social functions where representatives of nonprofits and prospective board members interact in search of a match.
