This promising practices brief explores the limited research on monitoring and promoting attendance and engagement during online learning and summarizes the practices used by a small sample of LEAs, including one CMO. In addition to a review of the literature relevant to engagement in online learning for K-12 students, readers will find examples of practices used to support student engagement and attendance at the teacher-level and district-level.
This paper was funded by the U.S. Department of Education national technical assistance center for addressing chronic absence, as part of its broader needs-sensing efforts.
