Credit Enhancement Webinar: Collaboration to Enhance Facility Financing
On February 24, 2015, Safal Partners hosted the fifth webinar in our Credit Enhancement Webinar Series. The fifth webinar in our Credit Enhancement Series focused on illustrating real-life examples of collaborations that have occurred to enhance charter school facilities financing options for operators. The presenter in this webinar was Jim Ford, with a brief introduction by U.S. Department of Education Charter School Program Officer, Clifton Jones.
Jim Ford is an independent education and strategic planning consultant and President of Ford Research & Solutions, Inc. Among his current, or very recent clients, is the New York City Charter School Center (Center). For more than eight years, until December 31, 2010, Jim was Charter School Programs Director and Lead Underwriter for the Raza Development Fund (RDF), a community development financial institution and support corporation of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR). Clifton Jones is a Program Officer for Credit Enhancement Grants, Charter Schools Program at the U.S. Department of Education. Jim discusses four distinct types of collaboration and illustrates each type by interviewing the following Credit Enhancement sector leaders: David Umansky, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Civic Builders (also former board member of the NCSRC); Mark Medema, Director with Building Hope; Michelle Liberati, Executive VP and Program Director of the Building Block Fund; Alex Shawe, Managing Director of Real Estate and General Council, KiPP DC; Sara Vernan Sterman, VP Strategic Investments, The Reinvestment Fund.
