In collaboration with the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, The National Charter School Resource Center provides master classes to charter support organization (CSO) leaders and staff as part of an ongoing training series.
Master Class Two presents a webinar on Legal Issues Impacting the Public Charter Sector: Student Discipline – Policy & Practices in Public Charter Schools. The webinar provided an opportunity to learn about recently published guidance jointly issued by the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Justice on student discipline, and better understand requirements for public charter schools.
Renita Thukral, VP for Legal Affairs at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools:
Renita addresses civil rights, fiscal equity and labor/employment issues confronting charter schools and develops and coordinates the Alliance of Public Charter School Attorneys.
Sunil Mansukhani, Principal at the Raben Group and former deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) Office for Civil Rights (OCR):
While at OCR, Sunil led the office’s policy initiatives. During his tenure, OCR issued guidance in areas such as the consideration of race in school admissions, harassment and bullying, sexual violence, athletics, and equal access for students with disabilities.
