Response to Intervention for English Language Learners: Appropriate Screening, Progress Monitoring, and Instructional Planning
The National Charter School Resource Center hosted a webinar April 19, 2012, which explored how to implement Response to Intervention (RTI) models that will effectively address the educational needs of ELLs and culturally, linguistically and experientially diverse students.
Our featured presenter was Dr. Julie Esparza Brown, an Assistant Professor at Portland State University. She is a nationally recognized expert in bilingual special education who works with schools and districts across the country to build the capacity of educators to develop effective RTI systems for diverse students. She reviewed the research and discussed how charter schools can implement RTI models that make appropriate adjustments for ELLs and other diverse students in screening, progress monitoring, and instruction.
