NCSRC hosted a webinar in January 2023 titled “Educator Diversity Matters: Strategies for Charter Leaders to Recruit, Hire, and Sustain Teachers of Color” to help charter school leaders leverage effective strategies to achieve educational equity by building a pipeline of teachers of color.

The event included an introduction to NCSRC’s “Educator Diversity Matters: Strategies for Charter Leaders to Recruit, Hire, and Sustain Teachers of Color” publication. The event also featured representatives from Drew Charter School and DSST Public Schools. The speakers shared their schools’ experiences and strategies for recruiting, hiring, and sustaining teachers of color and the ways their work has benefitted their school community. Key takeaways from the session were to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion in a charter school's mission, vision, and values; to establish SMART goals for recruiting, hiring, and sustaining teachers of color; and to integrate culturally responsive and sustaining education and anti-racist practices into school activities to better support the school community.
