The Merck Family Fund awards grants to support Urban Farming and Youth Leadership, with priority to programs in Massachusetts, New York City, and Philadelphia. Funding is for programs in low-income urban areas that harness the power of young people to create urban farms and local markets and address such systemic issues as health and nutrition, job training, environmental sustainability, and creation of social capital. Program proposals should include the following elements: providing high-quality leadership development and employment for youth, supporting highly productive urban farming projects that increase local access to fresh and affordable food, and engaging residents in food access and security issues in the community.
